My Dad the Bounty Hunter
Follow-up Questions:
- Up first, Can I congratulate you on the hair textures?!
Everett: I will take it! We worked really hard to make sure we got it right. Ain’t no way I was going to let our characters out the door if their hair wasn’t right. That said, kudos to our Production Designer Yuhki Demers, and our vendor studio Dwarf Animation. They knocked it out of the park!
- In reference to the backstory between Sabo and Glorlox, did the central pairing in Lethal Weapon inspire that relationship at all?
Patrick: Not for me personally, but we definitely wanted their past to feel like that buddy-cop dynamic. Arnold & Carl Weathers in Predator were quoted a lot. Though another Danny Glover movie that was a big influence was “Predator 2”, which will make more sense after you watch episode 8.
- Following up on Murtaugh and Riggs, how did your team-up come together?
Everett: Patrick and I met while working as story artists on the Emoji Movie at Sony. We frequently had conversations about the types of movies and series that we enjoyed and found a lot of overlap. We decided to collaborate on an idea, one that would include many of our favorite things, and Dad was the result!
- I have to ask about Bucky Quanto’s. Is there a real-life wing spot it is based on? And did one or both of you get caught “tussling?”
Patrick: We definitely brought up Wing Stop/Buffalo Wild Wings for reference. The big reference storywise for Bucky’s was the Hotel Artemis from John wick. We thought it’d be funny to do a bizarro version of that where everyone refrains from fighting because they don’t want to miss out on those wings.. I try to avoid ‘tussling’ in general, but I’m ready if someone tries to take my wings.
- So many great hip-hop references, like KRS 1-2-3 aka Kris. Or when you played “Bring The Noise” by Public Enemy at Bucky Quanto’s (I almost passed out). Did I also hear Redman in the theme song?
Patrick: You heard right! Redman was such a pro. He really gave it 100 percent when he came in. That particular song at Bucky’s was actually a last minute suggestion from our music supervisor Yvette Metoyer! I asked Yvette if we could find a song that mixed Bar-Brawl Heavy metal with Rap (which is a tough combo) and one of the songs she pulled was the Public Enemy/Anthrax Collaboration, and it just felt like the right kind of crazy for the scene. In general we tried to pick songs that Terry would have been into back-in-the-day, especially since so many moments in the show are tied to his past. That’s also why Redman was the perfect man for the job.
- And finally, if you could live in any fictional universe ever created in any medium, which universe would that be and why?
Patrick: There are a lot of fictional universes I love, like DUNE, but actually living in the Duniverse is probably not a ‘fun time’. I think I’d pick “The Fifth Element”. It’s chaotic but everyone still seems to be having a good time.
Everett: I love sci-fi so much, and there are so many amazing sci-fi worlds out there. But I have to admit, I’m a sucker for Star Wars. Who wouldn’t want to go pod racing, or drive a land speeder around?
