The Madam Blanc Mysteries – Season 3

The Madam Blanc Mysteries returns in season 3. We find the delightfully charming Jean White (Sally Lindsay), an antique dealer and amateur sleuth, embroiled in another web of mysteries she must solve to help the residents of the cozy village of Sainte Victoire in the South of France.

In the first two seasons of the show, we find a lost and somewhat awkward Jean White struggling to solve the mysterious death of her husband in the town, leading her to find more mysteries that require her attention, setting the stage becoming a fixture in the community and at times the bane of the local constabulary and the Chief of Police, Inspecteur André Caron (Alex Gaumond). Now, in Season Three, Jean has a cadre of allies and stalwart friends that aid in her often-maddening meddling to solve the most esoteric of crimes through her skills as an antiquarian and sharp eye for details often overlooked by the police.

While no stranger to the cozy mystery, made most famous by Jessica Fletcher (Angela Landsbury) of Murder She Wrote fame. The Madam Blanc Mysteries, thanks to the efforts of writers Sally Lindsay and Sue Vincent, who also star in the series, lovingly continues in this tradition with a cast of characters that add depth to the genre that thrives on not only just the next “murder” but also the complicated lives of these individuals. In this season, Madam Blanc opens to a more complex range of crimes that revolve around obsession, vendetta, and the world of fashion, to name a few, with each crime more arcane than the next and testing Jean’s knowledge more than ever.

The joy in this series is the mysteries and the obscure knowledge that help Jean solve the crimes in question. Did you know snails were once used in the dyeing process of clothing in Ancient Rome and considered a sign of wealth if you could afford to wear this clothing? I did not, and the next dinner party I attend, I will menace all my friends with that knowledge.

This series walks the line between murder mystery and drama beautifully by accessing one of the primary hallmarks of the cozy mystery genre: the socially intimate community. The cast of characters we enjoyed from seasons 1 and 2 have returned to add that layer of drama, humor, and, at times, frustration in Jean’s life as she embarks on many of her crime-solving endeavors. From Gloria Beauchamp (Sue Vincent), the spunky local garage owner who is the heart of the community, to Dom Hayes (Steve Edge), the local cab driver—think Uber with more personality and less capitalism, these two stalwart friends are just the few who support Jean as she navigates the “treacherous” cobblestone streets of Sainte Victoire and you cannot help but find yourselves as invested in the challenges these characters face as much as the murder mystery itself.

Season Three of The Madam Blanc Mysteries premiers February 26, 2024.
