Back to Black, Yuyu Kitamura x Dead Boy Detectives, X-Men ’97

|

Yuyu Kitamura stops by to talk Dead Boy Detectives. Sherin & Philip also get into Back to Black, X-Men ’97, and their fave SFF & paranormal Netflix adaptations.

Back to Black + WrestleMania
Sherin kicks off the show by telling Philip about Back to Black, the new biopic about Amy Winehouse directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and starring Marisa Abela. She talks about the unfortunate misses with the storytelling and what she wanted to see more of, “Back to Black left me disappointed, like a fading memory of seeing Amy Winehouse from a distance and never knowing if it was real. We don’t get close to her. Like a BuzzFeed Quiz turned biopic when the results aren’t what you hoped for.” Then Philip takes over the mic to briefly knock out the latest WrestleMania news.

Yuyu Kitamura from Dead Boy Detectives
Dead Boy Detectives is about to smash its way through your screens tomorrow on Netflix. To celebrate such a fantastical paranormal occasion, stay tuned to hear from Yuyu Kitamura who stars as Niko, one of our fave characters! Yuyu introduces Niko’s character and her evolution, before teasing what scene she is most excited for everyone to enjoy. (You might even hear some anime recs along the way!)

Our Fave SFF & Paranormal Netflix Adaptations
That leads Sherin and Philip into sharing some of their other favorite sci-fi/fantasy and paranormal adaptations that have been killing it on Netflix lately. Sherin begins by highlighting 3 Body Problem and how it differs from the original. Our Rioters also shout out Sweet Tooth and briefly touch on One Piece, The Sandman, and The Witcher, with some shenanigans in between.

X-Men ’97
To close out the show, the Spoiler Siren is rung so our hosts can fully dive into X-Men ’97. Philip has a ton of feelings about certain Cyclops storylines, they both have a lot to say about how the series fits into the wider MCU, and they have a few thoughts on the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine movie too.
