Warner Bros. Pictures returns with Joker: Folie À Deux the much anticipated sequel to the 2019 Academy Award-winning Joker. Reprising his role, Joaquin Phoenix stars as Arthur Fleck/Joker, alongside Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn (probably). The film follows Arthur’s institutionalization at Arkham as he grapples with his dual identity, discovers true love, and unearths a musical talent within. The stellar cast includes Oscar nominees Brendan Gleeson and Catherine Keener, with Zazie Beetz returning from the first Joker. Directed by Todd Phillips, who co-wrote the screenplay with Scott Silver, the movie features the original creative team, including Oscar-winning composer Hildur Guđnadóttir and Oscar-nominated costume designer Arianne Phillips.
While acknowledging the skillful filmmaking, Sherin still didn’t like the first one. She called it a “cesspool in a soup bowl” (full review). Let’s hope this one smells better. Or at least doesn’t attempt to make us simps for the villains—the Joker is not a folk hero, friends.
Joker: Folie À Deux in theaters nationwide on October 4, 2024, and internationally on October 2, 2024
