‘Daredevil: Born Again’, ‘Am I Being Unreasonable?’ S2, ‘The Studio’, ‘Pretty Pretty Please I Don’t Want to be a Magical Girl’

It’s time for our Rioters to suit up & dive into Daredevil: Born Again, before exploring what they want from the next phase of Marvel superheroes/vigilantes. But first, some TV recs!

What We’re Watching
As critics, Sherin, Alex, and Julian have been watching a whole lotta shows lately and they share their highlights. Alex tells the others about the premise of the comedy-thriller Am I Being Unreasonable? and teases S2 (check out her review), before Julian and Sherin dig into Apple TV+’s hilarious new comedy The Studio (Julian’s review is here). Sherin adds, “The Studio lets us live vicariously as a studio exec—fumbling, failing, almost getting smacked up by lovable former child stars—but no ulcers are involved despite the realness, it’s all belly laughs.” To close out the segment, Sherin and Alex cheer on Pretty Pretty Please I Don’t Want to be a Magical Girl (and Sherin has a review up too).

Daredevil is Born Again
Our Rioters run the spectrum of knowledge about Daredevil but one thing they can all agree on is that Daredevil: Born Again is an excellent show. They get into what they love and what they think of the characters, comparing it to the comics and the original Netflix series. Alex says, “Daredevil: Born Again is one of the best entries into the MCU we’ve seen in years—it’s got great action, villains to die for, and a beating heart that keeps you coming back for more.” They’ve all seen the whole of season 1 so listen out for spoiler-free teasers of their favorite episodes and scenes (and check out Sherin’s review for more).

Street Level Heroes for Marvel and DC + The Defenders Marvel Knights
With Daredevil, the Punisher, and Bullseye making their grand entrance into the MCU, we’re all wondering if the rest of the Marvel/Netflix lineup—Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and (that terrible excuse for) Iron Fist—will follow. While Julian objects to calling them the Defenders (henceforth they shall be known as the Marvel Knights), our Rioters discuss who they’d want to be brought into the MCU fold, and how. Then they jump over to the new DCU from DC Studios to talk about the upcoming show Lanterns, starring Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler as the Green Lanterns John Stewart and Hal Jordan.
