A group of cosplaying, anime-loving friends, who are feeling put down and rejected, accidentally cause a zombie plague. Now they’ve got to make their way across L.A. to save Mama Bear (Nichole McAuley), who is the mother figure to all of them (and the literal mother to one of them).

I’m down for a zombie movie, and I’m forgiving of a low-budget film — and this is both of those. So walk in knowing that the effects are going to be good, but not great and that the whole thing is made with love.

ZombieCON Vol. 1 is somewhere between a laugh out loud satire and a serious look at outsiders battling zombies.

They have some good actors — I especially liked Claire (Erin Áine) with her plastic lightsaber trying to beat a zombie to death! And they all really went for it, their characters are solid, and they make me believe them.

4 friends examine a crossbow.

The plot is a little thin — I mean, this IS a part 1, but it is also a zombie movie, and so what more do you need?

What is wrong with it then? Well, the usual suspects when it comes to underfunded films. The sound could be better balanced, sometimes it is too soft and sometimes too loud. Some of the lines are stilted, and don’t make a ton of sense — but really, that is less often in this film than in others.

It isn’t a bad movie, a little slow in the beginning, and the ending is a little bit of a cliffhanger (again, it is a part 1), but if you love cosplay and anime, this might really resonate with you. Give ZombieCON Vol. 1 a try, you might like it.
