Meet the Cast of Netflix’s ‘Pride and Prejudice’

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a studio in possession of good fortune, must be in want of a Jane Austen adaptation. Production has officially begun on Netflix’s upcoming take on the much-loved Pride and Prejudice. Written by Dolly Alderton (Everything I Know About Love) and directed by Euros Lyn (Heartstopper), the six-episode series will be a faithful adaptation of the novel.

With the announcement comes more casting news, with Rufus Sewell joining the cast to portray the beloved Mr Bennet. Freya Mavor will star as Jane Bennet, Rhea Norwood as Lydia, and newcomers Hollie Avery and Hopey Parish in their debut roles as Kitty and Mary. Louis Partridge will take on Mr Wickham, Jamie Demetriou will play Mr Collins, and Fiona Shaw steps into the role of the fearsome Lady Catherine de Bourg.

They join the previously announced Emma Corrin (Nosferatu, Black Mirror) as Elizabeth Bennet, Jack Lowden (Slow Horses, Benediction) as Mr Darcy, and Olivia Colman (The Favourite, The Crown) as Mrs Bennet. Our poor nerves can barely take all this excitement and trepidation as to how this new adaptation will turn out! Stay tuned for more details.

Alderton says: “Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story and I feel very lucky that I get to be a part of it. Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy – it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life. With Euros Lyn directing our stellar cast, I am so excited to reintroduce these hilarious and complicated characters to those who count Pride and Prejudice as their favourite book, and those who are yet to meet their Lizzie and Mr Darcy.”
