Back in June, DC/DOX Fest brought together filmmakers, journalists, and audiences to champion the world of non-fiction cinema. Sherin hosted some of the festival’s panels as a moderator, and for the first time online, you can hear her conversation with the Natchez creators, as well as revisit her time with the team behind Swamp Dogg Gets His Pool Painted.
Natchez Panel
Set in Mississippi, Natchez follows a circle of women who must contend with the weight of a place where the past is always present. Listen in as Sherin moderates the film’s post-screening Q&A with director Suzannah Herbert, producer Darcy McKinnon, ITVS consulting producer Noland Walker, and film participant Kathleen Bond, Superintendent of the Natchez National Historical Park (NPS).
They talk about what drew them to this story, telling the truth through film, and the standout scenes and themes. They also answer questions from the audience for an engaging and passionate discussion. The panel’s participants have a lot of respect for one another and for their craft, and their talk emphasizes just how important shining a light on history is.
Swamp Dogg Gets His Pool Painted Panel
To celebrate the on-demand release of Swamp Dogg Gets His Pool Painted, GGR revisits DC/DOX’s post-screening Q&A with co-director Isaac Gale and producer Ben Wu, once again moderated by Sherin. They discuss how the documentary came together, including when they first fell in love with Swamp Dogg, his new record Blackgrass: From West Virginia to 125th St, and what it’s like to build a world full of the wildest stories and magnetic personalities.
Swamp Dogg Gets His Pool Painted is now available on Apple TV, Prime Video, Fandango at Home, Google Play, DirecTV, and more, from Magnolia Home Entertainment.
