This week’s Will Trent starts with a big Salsa dance that ends in murder. If you’re anything like me, you’ll be screaming out, “poison,” when you see the discoloration around the dead dancer’s fingernails. But crime is only the baseline for this show; this episode, “The Man From Nowhere”is about Will and his connection to his mother’s culture. His Spanish is bad, real bad, but watching him struggle with it is very cute. And lines like, “My apologies, I was under the belief you were Puerto Rican,” will get you giggling.
Not only is there a coroner Pete (Kurt Yue) sighting, but guess who’s back? Bon Bon Chiffon (Jonny Beauchamp), our girl! This episode isn’t as engaging as usual, but Bon Bon makes it work. Will and Faith’s partnership is also the special sauce—and they’ve got a club full of “hostages” they refuse to release while they work the case.
Meanwhile, back at the office, Angie and Ormewood get stuck working a cold case with a pair of college students, and it’s hilarious. The enthusiasm and fresh perspectives are what Angie and Ormie need to get their flow back now that Ormewood is back on duty.

At one point, Will gets to do a sexy little salsa, so that’s nice. And there’s a stakeout with the college kids. Damn, sneakily collecting DNA is hard.
Dr. Roach (Margaret Cho) is back, and Will takes a break to deal with his tenuous hold on his identity. He doesn’t know his heritage that well, and now he’s faced with the difference between learning a culture and living it. It’s a good, strong emotional moment, and that’s the kind of thing that makes Will Trent king. Y’all, Dr. Roach is so good for Will. That worries me. Like, what’s wrong with her? I hope she’s not another serial killer from his early days or his mother’s rival who’s back for revenge. Anything could happen. Will Trent loves to throw us a curve.
If I had to choose a theme for this episode, it’s that doing the right thing is dangerous and sometimes deadly, but so much good can get done just by caring. Oh, and no one gets to define who we are, but others can teach us how to figure it out for ourselves.
