Episode Appetizer: Will Trent “Residente o Visitante”

Before we start, if you want to enjoy the upcoming episode of Will Trent, go to your music streaming app and listen to “I Left My Wallet in El Segundo” released by A Tribe Called Quest in 1990. Believe me—it will pay off.

The ninth part of Season 2, “Residente o Visitante” is a story in two acts. The first half starts in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where Will immerses himself in a culture he’s just getting to know. Another unknown is Uncle Antonio’s past, and if you were worried that our new Unc might not be who he seems, you’re about to find out. Faith and Ormewood form an uneasy partnership to investigate the murder of a predator, a case made more difficult because the neighrborhood sees the killer as a hero. Angie is out of the office but still in the story after losing a tussle (and not the good kind). In the second act, Will returns to Georgia and he, Angie, and Antonio play Humphrey Bogart from “Casablanca” with a touch of a Latino-Bond in the mix.

“Residente o Visitante” welcomes the laughs back but the crimes remain unrelenting. My favorite scene involves a stakeout and “I Left My Wallet in El Segundo” but there’s lots to enjoy. The FBI is in town and while they’re getting in the way, we get several unexpected team-ups. But Amanda proves she’s the best detective on the squad—that’s seniority for you. Episode 209 is about reconciling the troubles of childhood and whether doing something wrong for the right reasons is a good thing. “Residente o Visitante” begins like a hug, rolls into giggles, and ends bittersweet.
