Okuto Nakamura (Chiaki Kobayashi) is just a boy, standing in front of another boy, asking him to love him (or maybe just to be his friend, for starters). Yup, Nakamura is a high school student who’s madly in love with his dreamboat of a classmate, Aiki Hirose (Yuki Sakakihara). Hirose is charming and popular, while Nakamura is shy and awkward, with only a pet octopus for a friend. Aaaaand the two boys have never spoken before. Can Nakamura ever overcome his own shyness and get his crush to notice him?
In the premiere episode, our boy Nakamura is in luck—the home ec cooking class he and Hirose share that day takes an unusual turn when they find a bunch of live octopuses in the classroom’s sink. Nakamura feels like he’s the only one who truly loves these gentle creatures…until he finds out that Hirose finds them cool, too! You may be thinking: Wow, something in common! Go For It, Nakamura-kun!! But, in classic rom-com form, Nakamura’s chance to finally connect with Hirose might just be as slippery as the cephalopods they both adore.
Based on the manga by Syundei, Go For It, Nakamura-kun!! is a wholesome BL rom-com anime that’ll win your heart from the get-go. Nakamura is immediately likable in his klutzy, hopeless romantic ways, and you’ll feel for him (including all the second-hand embarrassment) as he tries to work up the courage to even talk to Hirose. In delulu dreamlike sequences, you’ll also get glimpses of what he imagines for their future love story, which is equal parts hilarious, silly, and super-cute (sigh, we’ve all been there).
All the giddy memories of your own first crush will come rushing back as you watch Nakamura flail around in his own mind…and occasionally in front of all his classmates. And Hirose is a winning love interest who already seems incredibly kind, even if he’s not yet aware of the total chaos going on inside Nakamura’s imagination. You’ll soon be cheering them on, all while waiting for the next shenanigans Nakamura is going to get himself into.
