The latest Geek Girl Riot serves up a delicious smorgasbord of first reactions to the latest TV & film, as well as a fabulous interview with Rico Nasty about Margo’s Got Money Troubles.

Masters of the Universe

Sherin, Day, Julian, and Kwesi kick off the show with their first reactions to the new He-Man movie, Masters of the Universe. Did it live up to childhood nostalgia? What beloved characters did they love to see on screen most? What worked and what needed more work? Our Rioters have mixed reactions—and they dive in (check out Day’s review for her full take).

Backrooms

Next up, follow Julian into the maze of the smash-hit A24 film, Backrooms, to hear why he thinks it’s nightmare fuel. Comparing it to an old-school video game, Julian gets into the history behind the YouTube phenomenon and its levels of horror and humor (read his full review for more).

The Mandalorian and Grogu

Then head to a galaxy far, far away with Sherin, Julian, Sam Leggett Jr, and Ulysses E. Campbell for their first reactions to The Mandalorian and Grogu. The hosts break down the production design, Ludwig Göransson’s epic score, and whether this is the Mandalorian (and Grogu) we’ve been looking for (catch up on Julian’s review now).

The Boroughs

Sherin and Sam also talk Netflix’s new series The Boroughs and why it’s Stranger Things mixed with Cocoon and The X-Files—and if that occult creativity works. (Explore more of The Boroughs with their first reactions review.)

Margo’s Got Money Troubles feat. Rico Nasty

Rico Nasty joins Sherin to talk all things Margo’s Got Money Troubles, the new Apple TV comedy-drama we can’t get enough of. Rico talks about the show’s power dynamics, single motherhood, accountability, and artists choosing their own path.

Is God Is

To close us out, Nagier Chambers from The Culture Collective joins Sherin for their first reactions to Is God Is. They dive into the film’s peak monstrous feminine storytelling and why you won’t be able to stop thinking about this unholy quest (read Sherin’s review for more of her thoughts).
