Staying Dead Isn’t An Option for ‘Mickey 17’ From Bong Joon Ho

We use terms like genius and ‘goated’ a lot, but Bong Joon Ho lays a claims. He’s a monarch of mind-bending narratives, and he’s ready to slay again with Mickey 17.

Set to hit the screens on January 31, 2025, Bong digs back into his excavation of ‘essential dread’ with Mickey Barnes. Portrayed by the forever-charismatic Robert Pattinson. Unafraid of risky roles, Pattison’s Mickey faces the daunting task of dying for a living. We love a goofy but ultimately meaningful space odyssey and Mickey 17 looks like it.

The cast includes Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo. With everything we know about Bong Joon Ho, we’re hoping for a cinematic feast that digs deep into themes of identity, sacrifice, and what it means to be human when society has labelled you ‘expendable’. After watching the trailer, we suspect that’s what this new sci-fi epic will deliver. Especially since all this goodness is wrapped up in a storyline inspired by Edward Ashton‘s novel Mickey7.

Warner Bros. Pictures will launch this space-y satire globally in January, but in the meantime let’s take a sneak peek at the trailer:
