Our Rioters dive into The Penguin and Agatha All Along, along with some entertainment news and anime recs.
News, Reviews, and Anime Views
First up, Sherin and Julian shout out all the good stuff going on at RIOTUS, from features to reviews to episode appetizers & beyond—so make sure you’re checking out all the newness while you listen to the show. Then our Rioters get into the news that Joe Manganiello is joining One Piece as Crocodile aka Mr. 0, alongside Lera Abova as Nico Robin aka Miss All Sunday, while Miya Cechas will be taking on the role of Toph in Avatar: The Last Airbender; three excellent additions to the live action adaptations!
It’s gonna be a minute until both of those shows return, so while you wait, here are some anime recs. Our hosts chat about why Dan Da Dan is one to watch on Crunchyroll (read Julian’s review for more). Then Sherin shouts out Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill, another brilliant Crunchyroll binge-watch, before showing her love for The Elusive Samurai (her review is up too). On the other hand, she has mixed feelings about Delico’s Nursery. Julian then shares his excitement for Netflix’s upcoming Devil May Cry and Ranma1/2 adaptations.
The Penguin
We’ve been waiting for this series for a long time: The Penguin is now on HBO and streaming on Max and our Rioters are about to get you fired up for it. Sherin says, “The joy of The Penguin is when everything goes wrong and Oz manipulates his way out of and into more trouble, while Sofia Falcone is a delightfully demented foil.” Listen in as our hosts highlight the cast and characters, the makeup and effects, and how the series slots into the Gotham represented in 2022’s The Batman film. Sherin continues, “Penguin elevates from B-villain to number 1 on the call sheet.” This iteration of The Penguin might just be the best on-screen yet—listen in to hear why (and check out Julian’s review).
Agatha All Along
To round out the show, Sherin and Julian compare their takes on Agatha All Along, which you can watch now on Disney+. There has been so much hype for this series…but did it live up to it? There are some highs and lows and “hmm” moments peppered throughout, which prompts a Riotus conversation as our hosts break it all down (see Sherin’s review of the first four episodes for more of her thoughts).
