What better way to ring in the holidays than with Is it Cake? The show’s Holiday season dusts your Netflix screen with a snowy layer of icing sugar and some silly baking shenanigans. If you don’t have its number yet, Is it Cake? challenges baking contestants to recreate everyday objects in fondant form, in an attempt to fool the judges into believing their creations are the real thing. In this installment, all the objects are holiday-related, natch. From nutcrackers to ice skates to Christmas trees, it’s impressive to watch the bakers problem-solve their way into crafting excellent cake replicas that may not taste all that good (seriously, it’s a lot of fondant and modeling chocolate) but they sure do look amazing.
Host Mikey Day keeps the excitement cranked up to several levels of whimsy; he’s not afraid to be goofy and run with the holiday theme. And the celebrity judges are here in force, including Tiffany Haddish, Rachel Bloom, Randall Park, and more. If I was famous, I’d jump on shows like this too—getting to look at pretty cakes all day does wonders for your mood. With that said, it does get surprisingly tense when it comes to judgment time; you’ll find yourself rooting for the cakes to blend in with their real counterparts. The celebrity judges have hilarious reasoning for their choices and even more hilarious reactions when the cakes are revealed. They’ll keep you giggling with their candy-cane-color commentary.
Is it Cake? Holiday is a fun & festive entry into Netflix’s ever-growing holiday baking show selection—it’s hard to believe we went so long without such a genre, but long may it reign!
