Was there ever a period in your life where everything fit precisely where it was supposed to?
Yeah, me neither.
Welcome to the struggle that is the life of Uka Ishimori, a brilliant and gifted student unable to see her potential and trapped in a bubble of judgment, bullying, and self-recrimination. Uka decides to go to Hachimitsu High School to get a fresh start. It’s not the most prestigious of schools, and the students aren’t the most diligent, but for Ishimori, it’s a place to build some semblance of a new life, a life of freedom.

Her decision is inspired by a chance meeting with Kai, a student with more slack in him than brains…or so it seems. For Ishimori, he is the idea of freedom she longs for in a world that has kept her locked in a cage. Despite his laissez-faire attitude, he supports her efforts to fit in with her new classmates, defends her against typical bullying type, and, when necessary, gives her a swift kick in the buttocks when she gets down on herself. It may not be the most constructive way to help, but the change in Ishimori becomes present, and the once shy wallflower slowly begins to bloom.
What will happen next? Who knows.
If you are a fan of Pretty Little Liars, Bring It On, or Pretty in Pink, then you might enjoy the journey of self-discovery of Uka Ishimori’s…and What is Kai’s Deal, anyway?
As an aside, I would like to send Uka a copy of Heathers and let the chips fall where they may.
