You probably won’t believe this, but when I first saw Viola Davis in 2008’s Doubt, I envisioned projects for her that defied the typical and became shocking, thrilling or heroic. And then How to Get Away with Murder happend. And then The Woman King happend. I got my “shocking” and my “heroic” roles for her. Then during the lockdown, I began to dream of a luxury apartment building in DC being taken over by domestic terrorists—to get to the children of the government elite—and only one woman, Viola Davis, has the secret training and the knowledge of the building to stop them. It happened again, now the “thrilling” requirement of my Viola dreams is unlocked. (watch the trailer below)

Prime Video is set to deliver high-stakes with G20, premiering on April 10, 2025. Produced by Amazon Studios and MRC Film, the political action thriller features Davis as U.S. President Danielle Sutton, who finds herself at the center of a “situation” when the G20 summit comes under siege. As the world’s most powerful leaders gather to address global challenges, President Sutton must navigate a treacherous landscape of danger and deception, evading capture and outsmarting the enemy to protect not only her family but also her country and fellow world leaders.
G20 looks like a trifecta: shocking, thrilling, and heroic; tapping into the current craving for political and/or spy thrillers that blend intense action with contemporary themes—a trend that’s winning in recent streaming successes like The Diplomat, and Mr. & Mrs. Smith. With Davis’ multifaceted talent and EGOT status, coupled with Prime Video’s record of delivering compelling original content like our beloved Reacher, G20 could be a breakneck addition to the platform’s lineup, taking us on an exploration of leadership under fire in the high-stakes world of international politics AND it has Ramón Rodríguez, too.
