‘The Last of Us’ S2, ‘Sinners’, ‘The Amateur’, ‘Warfare’, ‘G20’, ‘Lazarus’

The Last of Us S2 has taken over our Rioters’ brains this week, who provide us with a spoilerific breakdown of the first episode. They also get into Sinners, The Amateur, Warfare, G20, and Lazarus, with a few hot takes along the way.

The Last of Us S2 Premiere + Sinners
Sinners is coming on Friday, and Sherin and Julian kick off the show by teasing the new movie from Ryan Coogler, and its great promotions (Sherin’s review is up now too!). Then Julian digs into The Last of Us S2, easing us in with a comparison to the video game and introducing us to the new characters (read his in-depth review for more). Sherin and Julian break down the show’s relationships, the biggest changes, and what to expect from the rest of the season.

The Amateur + Warfare + G20
Next up, Julian tells Sherin all about The Amateur, the new movie starring Rami Malek, and how it basically imagines what would happen if Q became 007. Then he jumps over to Alex Garland’s war horror movie Warfare and how it will break your brain. There are some huge connections in here, a ton of big names, and plenty of sidebars to be had, and our Rioters have at it. To close out the segment, Sherin celebrates Viola Davis as the president we all deserve, in the new Prime Video film G20 (read her review).

Lazarus, Manga, Action!
Now you have your TV & film watchlist sorted, it’s time to turn to your anime faves. Sherin and Julian discuss Lazarus and why this is everything creator Shinichiro Watanabe excels at (read Sherin’s review for more). That leads our hosts into sharing some anime and manga picks, before getting into critics vs. audience reactions to the latest action and fantasy movies.
