One of the many questions you might be asking yourself upon diving into this series: Can’t the humans stop them? We are top of the food chain after all, apex predators, and have burned whole habitats to the ground and brought extinction on many species, just ’cause. So why can’t we use our advanced military power to stop the cats from taking over?
The simple answer: They’re too damn cute.
That’s right, no human could take one look at those furry feline faces and cause them harm. Even if those same felines are looking to end us all. And to that I say: Fair point. But the military is trying to rescue any stranded humans, which is where we find our crew.
Kunagi (Masaaki Mizunaka), Kaoru (Reina Ueda), Tanishi (Hiroki Yasumoto), and Tsutsumi (Yu Serizawa) are holed up in a convenience store waiting for rescue. Hey, at least there’s plenty of food, right? (And damn, the food looks so good I’ma need to recreate the recipe.) But when the power goes out, things quickly descend into a horror scene with customers and staff alike getting snatched left, right, and center [clean up on aisle 3, I repeat, clean up on aisle 3].

Okay, humor aside, this is probably the most on-edge I’ve felt so far this season, but the laughs are never too far away (nor are the cats). All the humans can hope to do is to flee somewhere up high and signal for help—and as it turns out, they have a secret weapon that might help them escape.
Nyaight of the Living Cat is doing a great job of showing just how quickly a pandemic nyandemic can take hold and cause chaos, while keeping it adorably lighthearted. And seeing more of the characters’ backstories and idiosyncrasies helps to add layers to the storytelling; you’ll be itching to know how far they can make it and just where they’re gonna run to…
