The Fantastic Four: First Steps – First Thoughts [Spoiler-Free Review]

Sherin, Julian, and special guest host Sarahti saw The Fantastic Four: First Steps earlier this week and recorded their immediate spoiler-free reactions right out of the theater.

First Reactions
Our hosts kick off with their initial thoughts, before getting into the parts they enjoyed and what they wanted more of. Starring Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing, along with Ralph Ineson as Galactus and Julia Garner as Silver Surfer, this new entry into the MCU has got us all talking and our hosts get into the characters and the teamwork, the standout moments, and the film’s design.

Fantastic Feels
With nods to the original comics and the 1960s setting, Sherin, Julian, and Sarahti explore the stories the film is adapted from and how it resets the MCU in a good way. They also dig into the film’s demonstration of the fantastic powers, the relationship dynamics, and how The Fantastic Four: First Steps fits into the Marvel timeline. Does the storytelling work? Does it understand the comics? Our hosts suit up & break it all down.

Final Thoughts + Feige’s Future
The Rioters close out the show with their final thoughts and why this is a superhero movie you need to see, with Sherin saying, “The first family of Marvel Comics is who they’re meant to be in the super cute and hopeful Fantastic Four: First Steps.” That leads them into a discussion about Kevin Feige’s recent comments on the future of the MCU and how he confirmed everything Julian has been predicting. That takes them on a speed run through the highs and lows of the Marvel timeline, including She-Hulk, Daredevil, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and Avengers: Doomsday—and they take no prisoners.
