Premiering February 22, 2024, on Netflix

The creators and cast of the anticipated and debated live-action series Avatar: The Last Airbender are taking fans behind the scenes, offering a glimpse into the process of bringing the beloved animated show to life.

The series, which premieres globally on Feb 22, is a reimagining of the adored animated saga that follows young Avatar Aang’s journey to master the four elements—Water, Earth, Fire, and Air (just like a good cup of tea)— to restore balance to a world under siege by the tyrannical Fire Nation.

With an impressive lineup of talent behind the production, including executive producers Albert Kim, Jabbar Raisani, Dan Lin, Lindsey Liberatore, and Michael Goi, Netflix promises a captivating reinterpretation of the original series. It stars Gordon Cormier as Aang, Kiawentiio as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, Dallas Liu as Prince Zuko, Ken Leung, along with Paul Sun-Hyung Lee. AND Daniel Dae Kim as the ridiculously “fione” Fire Lord Ozai—y’all let that man cook!

The eight-part series, each episode lasting an hour, is directed by a team of filmmakers: Michael Goi, Jabbar Raisani, Roseanne Liang, and Jet Wilkinson. A host of writers, including Albert Kim, Michael Dante DiMartino, Bryan Konietzko, and others, have come together to weave this epic tale, with Takeshi Furukawa providing the stirring musical score. The series was filmed in the scenic locales of British Columbia to emulate the majestic backdrops of the animation.

The Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action plans to take viewers on an action-packed quest as Aang, along with his friends Sokka and Katara, battle, the Evil but Dreamy, Fire Lord Ozai. But with the relentless Crown Prince Zuko on their trail, will their journey be one of redemption or defeat?
