Lin Manuel-Miranda And Eisa Davis Re-Envision The Cult Classic ‘The Warriors’ With A Musical Remix

To the street-smart survivors and lovers of cult classics: Come out and play. Get ready to clink those bottles together because the 1979 cult classic film; The Warriors is getting a musical remix. This new adaptation takes the form of a concept album that promises to capture the thrilling essence of a late-night run through Coney Island.

The creative team behind it is as legendary as the Warriors themselves. Lin-Manuel Miranda, the multi-award-winning mind behind Hamilton, has teamed up with Eisa Davis, the award-winning actor, writer, and singer-songwriter from stage and screen, to bring this project to life. Together, they’ve crafted a musical experience that might be ready to take the stage by storm (even if it isn’t officially headed to Broadway yet).

For the film fans and theater geeks, this musical is packed with Easter eggs and references that’ll make you do a double-take. The adaptation features a roll call of all seven Warriors, with a large cast. The biggest change in the adaptation is gender-swapping the boys into a Girl Gang and addressing the film’s misogyny and homophobia. The gang includes Kenita Miller, Sasha Hutchings, Phillipa Soo, Aneesa Folds, Amber Gray, Gizel Jiménez, Jasmine Cephas Jones, and Julia Harriman. With Lauryn Hill taking on the iconic role of Cyrus, bringing her powerful presence to the project.

The concept album also boasts an impressive lineup of other legendary talent, featuring contributions from music industry giants like Shenseea, Chris Rivers, Cam’ron, Busta Rhymes, and Wu-Tang Clan’s Ghostface Killah and RZA.

While we hope for any official announcements regarding a stage production, you can listen to The Warriors musical concept album now.

Can you dig it? So do we.
