Lightning Recs: Love is Blind – Season 8

Can you believe it’s been five years since we first entered the pods? Love is Blind is back for an eighth season to renew your faith in love—or at least, your faith in reality show drama—just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Hosted by our fave matchmaker couple Nick and Vanessa Lachey, this season heads to Minneapolis to bring together 32 singles—the largest group yet—who range in age from 26 to 43 years old. The dating scene in the city may be small but there are always new connections waiting to be formed, and this format allows the contestants to step outside of their typical preferences. Amongst the contestants are three nurses, several realtors, and even a few self-described Christmas enthusiasts (yeah, so that’s a thing). There really is someone for everyone…or at least, for the couples who actually manage to link up before their time in the pods runs out.

It doesn’t take long for these hometown hotties to suss each other out and this season, more than ever, shows the dangers of playing the field. You’ll be shaking your head when some contestants seem to forget they’re being filmed…or that the other people they’re dating might, y’know, talk to one another. But the fallout is more delicious than any candy you’ll probably eat today.

Okay, okay, but for real, Love is Blind is about breaking down the barriers to love—and this season delivers with giggles and delulu daydreams in abundance. There are also some wonderfully heartfelt moments when the singles share deeply emotional parts of themselves and take their time to be truly honest with their potential partners. That’s the real beating heart of this show and it keeps you coming back. Set to a sparkling soundtrack of alt-pop bangers, you can’t help but get swept up in the emotions of the music and the meet-ups. Seriously, kudos to the music supervisor Jon Ernst for a particularly excellent songlist this season.

Whether you’re fully ensconced in the season of love or you’re ready to break up with Cupid’s chokehold, this season has got’chu, babe. Watching romance and connection bloom is enough to warm even the coldest of hearts, while watching the ensuing drama when the rose-tinted glaze wears off might just keep you fired up all season long.
