Netflix’s ‘Little House on the Prairie’ Adaptation is Now in Production

Netflix is adapting Little House on the Prairie for a new generation, with production officially underway in Canada. Based on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s beloved book series, the streaming platform describes their take as, “Part hopeful family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West.”

Alice Halsey (Lessons in Chemistry) has been cast as the story’s young heroine Laura Ingalls. Luke Bracey (Elvis, Little Fires Everywhere) will play her father, Charles, while Crosby Fitzgerald (Crime 101, Palm Royale) will play her mother, Caroline. And rounding out the Ingalls family will be Skywalker Hughes (I, Object) as Laura’s older sister, Mary.

“I am absolutely thrilled with the brilliant cast we have assembled,” showrunner and executive producer Rebecca Sonnenshine tells TUDUM. “Each one of them brings something special to the Little House universe and will help make this story come alive for a whole new generation.”

Other cast members announced so far include Jocko Sims (New Amsterdam) as Dr. George Tann, Warren Christie (The Watchful Eye) as John Edwards, Meegwun Fairbrother (Avatar: The Last Airbender) as Mitchell, Alyssa Wapanatǎhk (Peter Pan and Wendy) as White Sun, Wren Zhawenim Gotts (Echo) as Good Eagle, and Xander Cole (People of the West, You Can Take It With You) as Little Puma.
