Lightning Recs: Wistoria: Wand and Sword

Welcome to Rigarden Magical Academy: A place where students come to practise the art of magic. Will is one such student…except he possesses no magic to speak of. So to get by at school, he hones his monster fighting, earning just enough credits to stay in school—but not enough street cred to fit in with the other students.

He desperately wants to become a Magia Vender, the most powerful mages in the world. But without magic, the barriers seem impossible…until he picks up a sword. It turns out his fighting skills are exceptional, defying even his teachers’ knowledge of what monster fighting should be.

Wistoria: Wand and Sword is an exciting underdog/chosen one story set in the not-so-safe confines of an extraordinary academy. If you’re looking for a magical school series to support instead of the one by She Who Must Not Be Named, Wistoria: Wand and Sword is a much better option (and the parallels are too many to avoid the comparison).

The spells and monsters thrill with captivating art and animation, turning each fight scene into an epic showdown. And out of the bloodthirsty battles rises a multi-faceted and charming hero worth rooting for. Come for the monster brawls, stay for the great character development; the students and professors of Rigarden have a whole world of lessons waiting for you.
