You Keep the Thrones, Give Me the Rings: ‘The Rings of Power’ Season 2

We’re halfway through the second season of The Rings of Power, which means it’s long overdue that we unleash our Tolkien-heads from the depths of Middle-earth to talk about it.

Kicking off with a quick breakdown of where Season 2 begins, Sherin then attempts to wrangle Alex and Philip into talking about each character in an orderly fashion. However, if you’ve ever read coverage from, listened to, or met Alex and Philip, you’ll know that when it comes to The Rings of Power, they cannot be contained. Thus, like Tolkien himself, the Riotus trio take a very roundabout approach to each character description, with plenty of hot takes to match.

Our Rioters then talk about the season so far and why it’s the most Tolkien-esque adaptation yet. They dive into what they’re loving and tease what’s coming—Sherin and Alex have both all eight episodes, while Philip is lacking in his episode-watching homework (but not in his LOTR knowledge). Sherin says, “It’s like D&D. Season 1 of The Rings of Power taught you the game, season 2 is the game playing you. It’s immersive and complex and that’s what makes it epic.”
