The Sun Yet Shines (But for How Long): ‘The Rings of Power’ S2 Closing Time, PBS ‘Renegades’ Aftershow #2: Daniel K. Inouye

Our intrepid Rioters head back to Middle-earth to break down Season 2 of The Rings of Power in all its glory. You’ll also hear our second PBS Renegades Aftershow, this time celebrating Daniel K. Inouye.

PBS Renegades Aftershow #2: Daniel J. Inouye: Life of Service
The second episode of Rioter Day Al-Mohamed’s PBS American Masters series Renegades highlights Daniel K. Inouye, a soldier who was injured in battle during World War II, resulting in the amputation of his right arm. He went on to serve as the US Senator for Hawai’i for over 50 years, championing justice and equality for all Americans, including people living with disabilities.

In our second Aftershow, Rioter Renee and guest host Mariette Largess chat with the episode’s writer Angel Williams and director Tammy “TS” Botkin. They share what they learned about Inouye’s many accomplishments, and how his military background influenced his work with veterans and the disability community. Listen out for the stories they loved to share most (including ones that go beyond the screen), as well as the stories from their own lives that influenced their filmmaking.

The Sun Yet Shines (But for How Long): ‘The Rings of Power’ S2 Closing Time
The incredible second season of The Rings of Power is over, so it’s time for GGR’s Tolkien-heads to arise like Balrogs out of Khazad-dûm, armed with flaming swords and spoilers aplenty, to cause a lot of on-air chaos. Once again, Sherin is left to wrangle Alex and Philip as they excitedly wave their top TROP theories about like Celebrimbanners (too soon?). Our Rioters share what they made of the season at large and what they think will come next for the show.

With so many characters and locations, their conversation takes them across Middle-earth, from Rhûn to Númenor, Eregion to the Southlands, and everywhere in between. They dig into the big reveals, the mirrored scenes, and the glorious touches of Tolkien. Oh, and you may not be able to see them through the airwaves, but they’re all throwing up a middle finger at the trolls (and we’re not just talking about Damrod, RIP).

Just remember, this episode is full of spoilers for The Rings of Power S2—so if you haven’t seen the whole season yet, go binge-watch it and come back later.
