Welcome to the most wonderful time of the year! Hallmark Holiday Movie Time!!!!
As some of you may know, every year Day and Renee do a Hallmark Watch where we try to see as many films as we can. And this year we are going to give quick little reviews for some of those movies. And we will review some cookies along the way too, because what is better than tea and cookies and a Christmas movie? So welcome to the GGR Hallmark Journal.
Renee: If you like a caper with a Christmas twist, The Christmas Charade might be for you. I say might, because while the premise is cute and interesting there isn’t a lot of chemistry between the two leads (Rachel Skarsten and Corey Sevier) – but it is cute, and I laughed out loud at some of the situations they got themselves in. And the ending…now THAT was not expected, and not a bad way to bring everything together.
Day: It was such a fun premise and I have to admit, I’m a big fan of Rachel Skarsten from way back when she played Dinah Lance on Birds of Prey. She really knocks it out of the park. There were a few too many moments where I had to suspend disbelief (the “training sessions” just didn’t feel like they added to the movie or their budding relationship). The script just felt too “loose”. But the camerawork is BEAUTIFUL. Overall, an enjoyable watch.
Renee: We give it 3 out of 5 Christmas Cookies – you could do worse, but I think you could do a lot better. The cookies we ate tonight were Maria cookies – just your basic b*tch cookie, but basic ain’t bad, basic means you appeal to a lot of people. And this cookie does, she holds up well enough for tea, but her flavor isn’t so overwhelming that she needs coffee to stand up to her. Just like the film, you could do worse!
