Cronos is unleashed. The Titans are coming. For the slow-moving and complacent gods, the time to act has long since passed, and they must scramble to defend themselves and the world from surefire destruction. If you’ve read or studied Greek mythology, you’ll have an inkling of what this means—but Blood of Zeus still might surprise you.
Blood of Zeus spent two seasons laying the groundwork for its epic showdown in season 3. By now, the series has ensured we’re fully invested in the characters and that makes the sacrifices they must make all the more heart-wrenching. No god or demigod is safe from Cronos’ wrath—and other players use his path of destruction as a distraction to cover their own misdeeds.
You’ll feel the sting of each personal betrayal and seed of hope that fuels the Olympians. Personal highlights are my forever OTP, Hades and Persephone, whose choices this season are both beautiful and bittersweet. Voice acting vets Fred Tatasciore and Lara Pulver breathe fresh life into their roles and love story. Gaia (Jean Gilpin) is another standout, whose conflicted nature will leave you reeling. And Cronos himself is an enigmatically frightening villain whose cruelty and vengeance are a sight to behold. Alfred Molina voices him with enthusiastic menace.

The animation style is vibrant and imaginative, capturing the essence and power of the gods, while using brilliant colors and shading to evoke the threat that looms over them all. With no limits to the effects of their powers, the gods are on full display here; Netflix’s penchant for animated mythology series is paying off nicely. Ooh, the violence will snatch your breath away! And it is scored by Paul Edward-Francis with careful attention to detail; it’s tense yet hopeful and always ready to burst into action at any moment.
Season 3 remains on par with the previous seasons and wraps up Blood of Zeus in a satisfying way. Of course, you’ll wish some of the characters had more time, but that’s only because the series has done its job of pulling you in. And with mythology as epic and complicated as this, Blood of Zeus manages to tell a slice of its saga with finesse.
